Family Law BABY STEPS: Assisted Reproduction and the Family Law Act (Vancouver, 2013) This paper outlines the provisions of the Family Law Act which is effective March 18, 2013. For the first time in B.C, the status of egg and sperm donors, and the procedures to conceive with the help of a surrogate parent, are covered in the law. The Family Law Act also makes it possible for a child to have more than 2 legal parents, provided that everyone agrees to be a 'parent' before the child is conceived.
