At Saskatchewan Trans Awareness Week conference focused on issues of health care for trans people."Saskatoon Health Region mental health and addiction services worker Jai Richards said issues for transgender people can start as soon as they enter the waiting room.
“Generally on most forms there’s two choices for gender, male or female; how do you answer that question? Depends potentially where you are in transition but how do you want to be identified so it’s limited right from the very beginning,” he said.
“And then you never know what health care professional you’re going to encounter and whether there’s some judgment.”
Richards said there’s a lack of consistency among Saskatoon healthcare providers and while he’s heard mixed reviews, the biggest issue, regardless of level of acceptance, is lack of knowledge." Read the full story here from CJME.
